Picking Up Where We Left Off

It's funny because I don't think of myself as a "blogger", as this blog can attest.  I just now enjoyed my most recent post (4 years old!) reliving the last General Conference 2012.  The last day o especially, was one that I will remember when we were painfully re-organizing as a body to overcome the blow the Judicial Council gave at the eleventh hour.  Literally.

I only write blogs when I am a delegate to our United Methodist Church General Conference, for two reasons:  1) I am a reserve delegate with time on my hands.  And 2) I do my best reflections when I'm writing.  It reminds me of being in the 5th grade, writing to my "Strawberry Shortcake" diary  my greatest yearning-- my dream to hike NC Holmes State Forest "long trail" all by myself.  That dream seemed so radical to me, to walk three miles in a beautiful forest one day, all alone.

So here we are in Portland, Oregon for the 2016 General Conference.  I'll be writing my reflections as we go.  Granted there are so many perspectives and witness that will be offered, and mine will just be one in a sea of thoughts.  Welcome to my blog, my thoughts, my hopes and dreams.  And while it's not the "long trail" at Holmes State Forest, I'll be walking many miles while I'm here in beautiful Portland!

Hi Shelly, So happy I found your blog. Be assured UMC is not the only one struggling to find its path forward. Somehow, all of us must find ways to make our churches relevant, integral, loving parts of our communities.
